The single biggest structural story in the industry is the shift from physical venues to online play. Globally, online is roughly 17% of the market in 2025 ($107.7B of $632.8B), but the share is far higher in mature digital markets.

Where online already leads

In Europe, online reached 39% of GGR in 2024 and is expected to cross 40% in 2025; in Sweden it is 68.3%, with Finland and Denmark close behind. In the US, online (iGaming plus online sports betting) reached 30% of commercial gaming revenue for the first time in 2024. EGBA projects online approaching parity with land-based across Europe by 2029.

“Online share” depends on whether sports betting and lotteries are included; we note the scope with each figure.
